7 Trends You Should Actually Invest In This Fall

Fall is here! New shopping season! New fun stuff to spend all our money on! Instead of going gangbusters, though, and buying everything in sight (whether that’s at Barneys or at Zara—or a little bit of both), we’ve put together a comprehensive list of seven trends worth investing in this season, based on what we saw go down the fall runways. (One of them is even a beauty trend, and our guess is you probably already own the product to fulfill it.) These are the lewks that will update your wardrobe so that you get that fresh *fall into fall* feeling when you open your closet door and get dressed in the morning. So let’s get something great out of the cold weather that’s about to slap us in the face, shall we?

Something Red

If you’re one of those people who claims their wardrobe is primarily made up of shades of grey, black and navy (aka us), give yourself a little nudge this season and invest in something red. Something really, really red. And make it a fashion piece—i.e., something that couldn’t be classified as a “basic.” Because on the runway, at at Tod’s, Giambattista Valli and Givenchy, it was all red, all over. You can do it.

Glitter Boots

*Those* Saint Laurent boots were a real moment in Paris. You know the ones: impossibly high, slouchy, pointy-toed, and covered in glitter. The wait list on those babies is about a mile long. In the meantime, subsist with the following.

Berry Lipstick

From Valentino and Giambattista Valli to H&M and La Perla, we saw that classic bitten berry lip just about everywhere. Matte, liquid, gloss—it’s your choice. Just make sure your shade is on that purplish-blue spectrum.

Refined Hardware

J.W.Anderson did it first with his Pierce series. And Simon Miller with their Bonsai (ILYSM), but this season there are a whole lot more to choose from. It’s like your handbag is wearing jewelry.

’70s-Era Plaid

Okay, so fashion’s been referencing the ’70s for a while now—but this season’s obsession is around plaid. Loud and proud plaid in shades like olive green and brown and orange. Think a cross between Mr. Foreman and the original Scooby Doo. It’s fashion, people.

Folkloric Fantasies

Here’s another Americana reference (because there’s so many things to celebrate about this country these days!). But it’s everywhere. And it’s pretty. Embroidered anything, diaphanous dresses, and straw stuff.

Shearling Jacket

If you spend big money on any outerwear this season (we know, we know, it’s impossible to pick just one), make it a shearling-lined jacket. There’s a certain sexiness to the masculinity of these coats, no?
