As we’ve established here, autumn is a time for getting it allllll together (because chances are you might have, conversely, let it all go this summer). Pin it on a back-to-school mindset, but we usually dedicate this time to attempting to dress and feel like the most pulled-together version of ourselves—a pretty tricky task to nail when the weather makes said dressing nearly impossible. To deal, we’re relying on a handful of tried-and-true trends that are really just modern-feeling updates on classic wardrobe staples: embellished ankle boots; metallic pleated skirts; tricked out, ultra-rich moisturizers; and luxurious, albeit intricate timepieces. And so far, it’s doing just the trick.
Designer Spotlight: Baume & Mercier
This space is usually one we use to shout out up-and-comers—and this Swiss heritage brand is precisely the opposite (founded in 1830, to be exact). But there’s something that just feels so right about investing in a fancy, grown-up timepiece come fall, and for that, they’re our go-to. We’re currently eyeing their ultra-feminine Petite Promesse styles, which loop around the wrist twice in delicate, brightly hued leather with a diamond bezel. Need we say more?
Embellished Ankle Boots
Basically, if your boots aren’t sparkly, spangly, or textured this fall, you might as well not really be wearing boots at all. Look for glitter, metallic leathers (more on that later, BTW), actual embroidery and embellishment, or just plain fun colors in choosing your ankle boots this season. When in doubt, go for the gold (not that that’ll be hard—it’s literally everywhere).
Metallic Pleated Skirts
You’d frankly be hard-pressed to find a skirt to wear that’s not pleated this fall. The metallic (in all colors of the rainbow) sheen is what really makes the trend, though—we recommend stocking up on a few variations (striped, satin, velvet) to satisfy your very real need for a few in your closet.
Serious Moisturizers
We’ve been trying to squeak by with gel moisturizers, but we can’t deny it any longer: as the temperatures change, so do the needs of our skin. And that means stocking up on a serious cream moisturizer to see us through the next few months—preferably one that applies airy and light, but deeply hydrates for baby-soft skin. Consider this a no-wind-chapped-faces zone.
