How To Do Sophisticated Nail Art

You know how a few seasons ago, bare nails—not even nude, just straight up bare—were kind of a thing? Yeah, we fully embraced that moment, save for an occasional red nail for those, uh, extra special occasions. And okay, we’ll admit that nail art circa 2010 has officially become tired, but all you need to is a cursory glean over your Pinterest feed to see its perpetually undying, although to be fair, more refined, presence. And there’s still something so appealing about a nail with a bit more dimension than a single pastel shade—in this case, a minimal super-tailored line down the middle. Plus, it’s, like, totally easy, right? To show us how to get it right with our not-so-dexterous fingers, because, let’s be real, we’re bound to mess it up on our own, polish magician Mimi Kurita of Paintbox in NYC, breaks it all down for our late-night DIY mani ventures.

What you need:

Striper brush
NARS Night Out
Marc Jacobs Gatsby
Essie Silver Set in Stones

1.

Polish the entire nail with NARS Night Out and allow to dry.

2.

Using a metallic polish, draw a stripe down the center of the nail with your narrowest brush.

3.

Dot on a chunky glitter polish like Essie Silver Set In Stones over the stripe. Top coat.
