Model. New York
It’s no secret that we have an affinity towards, well, fellow Canadians (we’re kind of patriotic, okay?). And, weirdly enough, it’s not all that rare that we run into them, from Leslie Fremar and Quentin Jones to Heather Marks and Joanna Hillman (as front row neighbors at CHANEL, no less). What can we say, guys? Yeah, undercover Canadians know a thing or two about getting dressed in the mornings. But that’s not to say we weren’t still excited showing up at the door of Alana Zimmer’s East Village apartment—we mean, in the past few years she’s represented us everywhere from the pages of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to the runways of Christopher Kane and Dolce & Gabbana—she’s also a regular campaign model for heavy hitters like Givenchy and MAC, so, like NBD or anything! But let’s be real, we know and love Zimmer best when she’s sans stylist, lights and wind machine. As far as post-runway show street style is concerned, Zimmer is pretty much the calm, cool and collected ying to BFF Hanne Gaby Odiele’s outrageous yang. Think off-duty-model, but with personality—so instead of that ubiquitous black biker jacket, she’s in a Dries overcoat and wearing brogues with her cropped trousers rather than the standard (but still cool!) Isabel Marant Dicker boots with skinny jeans. Kind of our androgynous dream girl, in other words. And as you can see, her closet did not disappoint. In fact, we were ready to move right in and claim it as our own (then again, in a game of who wore it better, we won’t flatter ourselves into thinking we can compete with a 5’11” model). This girl has ineffably cool dressing on lock (there’s something in the water north of the border, we swear): a leather Margiela maxi skirt (a particularly special sample sale score), Céline shoes in every variety, a prodigious collection of Derek Lam (let’s just say she’s a favorite of his) and enough denim to make even the most jeans-devoted among us green, uh, blue(?) with envy (please head this way for Zimmer’s expert advice on just how to wear the fabric head to toe—you know, the Canadian way). Oh, and once Zimmer had done her thing in front of Jake’s lens (she is a pro, after all), she took us shopping at her favorite secret boutique—and now we’re totally on our way to being street style bait too, you guys.
