Hanneli Mustaparta x Mercedes-Benz

Photographer; Model. New York

From Peter Pan collars and sparkly cat-eye sunglasses to artfully oversized white overalls and baby-doll dresses; we can see where the line between street style photographers' dream subject and kindergarten student become blurred. And while we've met our fair share of children with their own fully-fledged CHANEL collections, it's a whole other league when the person pulling off playground-ready pieces is a statuesque Norwegian, right?! Enter Hanneli Mustaparta—the photographer, stylist and one-time model whose face you're likely more than a little familiar with if you know your way around the street style scene

We first caught up with the multi-hyphenate at The Carlyle Hotel (which, fittingly, has become a second Manhattan home of sorts for Mustaparta). We got way deep raiding her overstuffed suitcase(s) and poring over the selection of carefully-curated coffee table books she'd brought along with her. Meanwhile, she flitted in front of our photog's camera in Valentino and Mary Katrantzou frocks. It came as a surprise to approximately no one when we unearthed a virtual catalog of her greatest sartorial hits (as lensed by everyone from Tommy Ton to Scott Schuman): from printed Céline slip-on sneakers to checkered Miu Miu earrings and surrealist Prada stompers.

Mustaparta also came with her beauty game on considerable lock, with a stash of products from Decleor, Lancôme and Oribe (among many others) in tow. We watched as she shook out her now-signature, artfully-tousled yet immaculately-polished lob and touched up her semi-matte orange-red lip, patting a touch of shimmery peach blush along her cheekbones. And while Mustaparta certainly has the whole impossibly-collected and simultaneously incredibly-cool thing down in spades, we like to think she summed up her sartorial mission statement aptly with the pillow she brought along to the shoot—always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn. We mean, what do you expect from the woman who makes Osh-Kosh B' Gosh-esque overalls look like demi-couture?
