How to Set the Party Mood

Society Social’s founder breaks it all down for us.

By: Jodi Taylor

We like to entertain (duh), and we like to do it right. AKA, 10/10 decorations, only the finest of wines for our guests, table settings fit for a Queen, and a killer outfit that screams ‘host of the year’. But regardless of whether everything on your list is checked off (just in time to greet the first guest), it’s crucial to set the right tone and mood for your holiday fête—after all, your guests are trusting you to make them feel comfortable and have the best night of, well, their lives. So we turned to Roxy Te, furniture and interior designer, as well as founder of Society Social to get all the details on how to perfectly set the mood for a party. Memorize these now and wow even the most stubborn of guests.

1. Set the Mood

“Candlelight makes everything magical—scatter them from tabletops to mantles, then dim the lights, pop the bubbly, and nobody will notice a lack of decor!”

2. Make Use of Nature

“Bring the outdoors in! If you don’t have time to run to the florist, simple branches arranged in a tall glass vase will make a statement. String up lights or accent them with small ornaments for festive flair.”

3. Host Right

“Keep your bar cart stocked and you’ll always be ready for guests. Period!”

4. Be Cheesy (Literally)

“Cheese never fails. Serve items you can unwrap and plate like a few fancy cheeses! Cheese plates also always make for a great presentation without a ton of effort. Scoop up crackers, grapes, olives, fig spread, nuts, some prosciutto and you’re set!”

5. Press Play

“[Have] the perfect playlist—it’s not a party without music! To make it extra fun, reach out to your guests ahead of time for their favorite songs. I assure you everyone will have a good time!”
