All the eye creams in the world can’t do what really good under-eye concealer can do to hide a bad night of sleep (or a good night of no sleep, right?!). So we asked one of our favorite makeup artists, Nina Park, who works with celebrities like Bella Hadid and Zoe Kravitz, to show us how she helps her clients look bright and awake thanks to her own under-eye concealer technique. There’s a little bit of layering and a lot of careful patting.

First, Park recommends that you start by hydrating with an under-eye cream so that all the makeup that goes on top afterward melds into the skin well. Then she layers on a fuller-coverage concealer with a gel-like texture, like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealing Pot. Use a small, flat concealer brush like Make Up For Ever Concealer Brush Small to focus on the inner corner and the ring that’s the darkest, using a patting motion to keep the coverage exactly where you want it. Park suggests not applying it all the way up to the lower lash line; otherwise it starts to look less natural.

To help the full-coverage concealer blend into the skin, Park layers on a creamy concealer, such as Dior Diorskin Forever Undercover Concealer. Blend it over the orbital bone. Finally, set with a translucent powder like Amazing Cosmetics Velvet Mineral Powderset to prevent creasing, using a fluffy brush like Laura Mercier Finishing Pony Tail Brush. Boom, you’re looking fresh and bright-eyed!
