The reason will surprise you.

On Sunday, we got to kick it with Mandy Moore while she got ready for the Golden Globes 2018. Our writer, Rachel Marlowe, chatted with Moore while she was getting her hair pulled back into a low bun by Ashley Streicher for Garnier, and a red lip applied by makeup artist Matin for Charlotte Tilbury. And Moore let us in on perhaps her best beauty secret of the night.

“This year I’m trying some CBD oil on my feet, which my stylist recommended. I asked her if there was some kind of numbing cream, and she was like, ‘No! [Try] Lord Jones CBD Oil.’ So it could be a really exciting evening! I could be floating this year,” said Moore, referring to her stylist Erica Cloud, who dressed the actress in a black Rosie Assoulin gown with a red belt as part of the Time’s Up movement. Turns out Olivia Wilde is into the same CBD oil.

If we had to wear a pair of stilettos for six-plus hours, we’d be looking for a helping hand, too. “I always try to choose really comfortable shoes, because as I’ve gotten older I just can’t hack being in heels for an extended period of time,” says Moore. “Last year I thought I had gone for a pair of comfortable heels, but by the end of the night I was in so much pain I felt like I was walking on glass, so I kind of ended the evening early… Although honestly, I’ll find any excuse for an early night.”

We haven’t heard yet how the whole experiment went, but it was a great night regardless, especially for Moore, whose This Is Us co-star Sterling K. Brown was the first black man ever to receive the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a TV Drama.
