‘Cause they don’t read so well in the rain and cold.

What We’re Replacing Our Straw Totes With This Fall

The fashion gods know that ever since the temperature rose north of 75, we’ve confined ourselves (happily, we might add) to bags that are solely made of straw, wood or wicker—with maybe a leather strap or two thrown in. We’re pretty sure that with the help of Poolside Bags and Cult Gaia’s Ark bag, this summer will forever be known as the Summer of the Straw Tote.

Ask us, and when it comes to what you can and can’t wear, the rules no longer apply. Wear black with navy; wear white after Labor Day; wear sandals in the dead of winter with a thick pair of socks. And, sure, carry the straw bags you’ve been packing all summer into the fall if you want to. That said, if it feels weird to shoulder a bag made of straw or wicker when the leaves start falling and the rain is full-on, we get it. And while we’re wedded to our basket totes and miniature straw clutches for now, we’re going to need replacements as soon as the weather begins to turn. With that in mind, here are your best bets for fall.

Replace your Cult Gaia Ark bag with...

If you don’t own a Cult Gaia Ark bag, or you haven’t been carrying around a similar, generally impractical straw clutch bag found on some vacation (Bali and Colombia are prime spots), we’re going to go ahead and presume you’ve grown a phantom one what with the preponderance that have summarily taken over our Instagram feeds since May. What you need to substitute your wicker substance problem with is a similarly compact, short-handled pouch that may or may not fit your phone. Chicity chic chic.

Replace your straw tote with…

While, yes, there’s about half an inch of sand and maybe a dead crab or two at the bottom of our straw totes, we’ve also hauled everything from our laptops to our weekend wardrobes in them (sharing is caring!). For the fall, we’ll need something just as indestructible and telepathically carefree.
