The Most Jaw-Dropping Fashion and Beauty Collaborations We’ve Ever Seen

When fashion and beauty worlds collide in an explosion of creative brilliance, it does things to us that we can’t explain. Notably, it makes typically sane women behave like unhinged wild animals, hysterically running through departments stores, creating a sight reminiscent of the Mean Girls watering-hole scene. Such is the desperation to get our hands on the latest designer offering, dignity must take a firm step aside.

Part of the appeal of designers collaborating with beauty brands is that, while previously their creativity was unattainable to the humble salary earner, now it’s readily accessible. For example, you might not be able to afford a $2,500 Victoria Beckham dress, but you can buy her lipstick for $45. It offers a touch of the designer without the hefty price tag. Hence the delirium, mania, buzz, tears—*all* the emotions.

Tipping us over the edge of excitement this week was the news that Karl Lagerfeld is collaborating with Australian beauty brand ModelCo (yay!). So to celebrate, we thought we’d look back at the most jaw-dropping fashion and beauty collaborations we’ve ever seen.

Not Karl’s first foray into the world of beauty (let us take a moment to remember Choupette’s collection for Shu Uemura), the new, limited-edition line of color cosmetics with the Australian beauty company is as innovative as it is chic (but of course!). Inspired by “illuminated beauty,” we’re expecting products that give us the model-worthy fresh glow we’ve been lusting after for years. The only downside? We’ll have to wait until the beginning of 2018 to get our hands on these products. But the best things in life are worth waiting for, right?

Standout product: The full collection hasn’t been released yet, so watch this space…

After the success of her first sold-out collection with Estée Lauder last year, the line was relaunched in March 2017 with *two* new originals. In typical VB style, the compacts are sleek and minimally stylish, but beauty isn’t their only virtue. Combining the expertise of Estée Lauder and Beckham’s love for wearable beauty, the products make you look like yourself—just a more glam version (sometimes with sparkly eyelids).

Standout product:The new Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder Lipstick in Nude Spice Matte ($45). Apart from being *slightly* overexcited about her nod to her Spice Girl days, the lipstick has a browner, richer tone than a classic nude, with a velvety matte finish we’ve become all too obsessed with.

Echoing Jason Wu’s accessorizes, the gold-topped bottle is the picture of elegance. “When I was thinking about dressing the bottle, I imagined how I would intend to dress the Jason Wu woman, which is with pure refinement and sophistication,” Wu told Forbes of his inspiration. Behind the beauty is the same glow-giving, nourishing, watery goodness we love. That, and it makes a killer Instagram shot, a very important requirement.

Standout product: There’s not a beauty editor around that wouldn’t recommend Caudalie Beauty Elixir. The reason being? This toning mist is the injection of life into skin every time you spritz, which both primes and sets makeup from looking too cakey. It’s essentially a reset button for skin that takes it back to its best.

Christopher Kane and NARS

Hysteria followed this collaboration. We’re talking gasping-into-a-brown-paper-bag hysteria. Launching back in 2015, it was a mix of neon brights and nudes in a bold but wearable color collection. As you’d expect, it didn’t last long on the shelves.

Standout product: While you can’t buy it anymore, some of the products were similar to NARS’s permanent collection pieces like Orgasm Blush, a rouge that needs no introduction.

We didn’t think we needed another reason to love our Tangle Teezers—until we saw the Lulu Guinness limited-edition designs. Pairing her signature British style with an everyday essential, it was destined to sell out. In this case, the popularity works in our advantage: The brands have renewed their relationship to launch a second collection for the Compact Styler this year.

Standout product:Tangle Teezer Compact Styler is a purse-friendly comb with a protective cover; this way you don’t get hair everywhere. The unique “teeth” are flexible, so they’ll gently untangle without ripping or damaging the follicle.
