We often wax poetic on how genuinely surprised we are by the treasures we unearth from the closets we feature. But when we flew into Milan to meet with Spanish model/DJ/Rihanna-muse Sita Abellan, we were more taken aback by Sita herself than with her wardrobe (don’t worry, we’ll get to that in just a second, too). It’s easy to develop a preconceived notion of what the blue-haired, blunt-banged, long-limbed, fetish-collar-wearing Abellan would be like in person; soft-spoken, shy, and sweet is probably not what you’d initially expect. But Abellan is just that.
And we can’t fault you for any preconceptions (we had them too), because, well, you probably first discovered Abellan as Rihanna’s Louis Vuitton trunk-dragging henchwoman in “Bitch Better Have My Money”—a role she landed after Rihanna discovered her on Instagram. And as we balanced Yeezys on her very pink vanity, Abellan told us—through giggles—how she drank a little too much bubbly during her first acting gig and accidentally got drunk. We mean, if Rihanna fed us champagne while sitting on a yacht, we’d drink it too.
Since then, Abellan has toured internationally to DJ after-parties and events for the likes of Jeremy Scott, created a capsule collection with MISBHV of silky boxer robes and slinky tie-up tanks, walked the runway for Fenty, and sat front row at Balmain and Adam Selman. She’s also since racked up quite a collection of designer pieces—think sheer Prada two-piece outfits, neon-camouflage Jeremy Scott puffers, green snakeskin Gucci bags, dragon-emblazoned J.W.Anderson dresses—all of which she mixes in with her vintage finds.
