The almost-always-shirtless hot guy you follow cuts his own hair, too.

The 2-Product Skincare Routine of a Male Instagram Model

In case you weren’t one of the 6.4 million (at time of publishing) ogling followers of the oft-shirtless, 8-pack (we counted) having, teacup Yorkie toting actor and model, Nick Bateman, may we introduce you here now. He makes a nice addition to the feed, if we do say so ourselves. And given he was the face of GlamGlow, you’d think his grooming routine was as complicated as a beauty editor’s. But, it’s actually quite the opposite. Take how he cuts his hair on his own or how he uses beard oil which smells like essential oils to create a shiny coif. We had him walk us through his entire low-maintenance routine and show us some bow staff for good measure (wink.) More abs below.

He’s actually low-maintenance:

“The first thing I do in the morning is shower, but I only wash my hair once a week. The natural oils are healthy for my hair. I don’t really shave, ever—I never go clean shaven. I put a three or a two guard on my beard trimmer and I’ll trim that when it gets long.”

He takes things into his own hands:

“For years, I’ve been cutting my own hair. It’s funny, I never ended up trusting anyone to cut my hair because I would always go [to the barber] and they would cut it too short. So, I started teaching myself and over the last three years, I’ve been cutting my own hair. I screwed up a lot for the first year. I had bald spots, I shaved too close in some areas, my friends were laughing at me. But then I got the hang of it. I go to a hairdresser once every six months to a year to get them to shape it the way I want, and then I will just follow up on my own. My washroom is always messy as hell because I cut my hair probably once a week to keep it from getting too crazy.”

The skincare product that changed his skin:

“I use GlamGlow's Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer, which I only started using it once I started working with GlamGlow. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do. I used to have dry skin on the sides of my nose that I could never get rid of and after using the Volcasmic, it has actually gone away. It’s not a plug, it does actually work.”

The one product he can’t live without:

“Beard balm. It’s something I stumbled onto about two years ago when I moved to L.A. I just love it because everywhere I go, when I wear this beard balm, everyone is always like, ‘Oh, what is that smell?’ It’s a cool effect to have that you can walk into anywhere and everyone loves the smell. It’s potent but it’s really natural smelling. It’s not overbearing. It’s kind of like an essential oil type smell.”

What he smells like (from day to night):

“I have two colognes that I love to wear if I’m not wearing the beard balm. One’s more of a daytime scent, one’s more of a nighttime. My daytime scent is Allure Homme by Chanel. My nighttime is Dolce & Gabbana The One.”

How he gets his abs because of the Ninja Turtles:

“When I was four-years-old, I wanted to be a Ninja Turtle, and so my mom put me into martial arts. After doing three years of karate, I saw a kid at the karate school spinning a bo staff with one of my instructors and I was like, ‘What is that?’ I know that Donatello in Ninja Turtles used a bo staff, so I was like, ‘I want to use that.’ I started training and I was horrible at first but with a lot of persistence and repetition and training, I ended up winning three world titles just in bo staff. I’ve done it since I was seven-years-old. It’s something that I get to be creative with; it’s an outlet for me. When I have some spare time and enough space, I will take my bo staff, which is a six foot wooden pole, and I’ll just spin it around, strike.

“I also do a lot of bodyweight stuff [in the gym]; chin-ups, dips, pushups. I do a lot of obliques. I like to do a lot of body weight stuff and stay lean because if I put on too much mass, it slows me down for martial arts.”

On his three indulgences:

“First off it’s pizza. If I see a pizza commercial, I want to punch the wall because I get so hungry. Cheese pizza with double pepperoni. My second favourite is more my hangover foods, In-N-Out. Everything is freshly made on the spot. My third thing is an authentic Thai food place across the street from where I live. This woman makes the most insane Thai food.”
