We like to think we’re a funny bunch over here—we don’t take ourselves too seriously, believe fashion should be fun and approachable, and try to inject humor into our features all the time. And it just so happens that most of the people whose homes we invade (and who also tend to take over our Snapchat) have the same desire for daily hilarity. But none so much as Saturday Night Live cast member and recent filmmaker (the soon-to-be-released Darby Forever is at the top of our must-watch list), Aidy Bryant. And yeah, that’s because her 9-to-5, or, as Bryant explained, sometimes 20-hour work sessions, are completely centered around making people laugh. Which, when you think about it, is something that’s really, really admirable (not surprising when you meet the incredibly nice actor in person).
So we were just a little excited about the chance to stop by Bryant’s brownstone—which, BTW, is a quintessential New York apartment. As we propped bow-adorned sparkly Kate Spade pumps atop a Pinterest-worthy marble fireplace and brightly hued peonies alongside print-splashed scarves, we realized that this was not the makings of a typical city wardrobe. Instead, it was as refreshingly bright—with not a black or navy frock in sight—as you’d expect from a comedian as energetic and colorful as Bryant. And her surreal accounts of what it’s like to be part of something as classically New York as SNL, are all of those things, too.
Honestly though, between her character impressions and cameos in both Broad City and Girls, Bryant is the type of person we just wildly assume we’d be IRL best friends with. And after chatting with her about everything from stepping up her style game to the magic of a Nars matte lip pencil, and her venture into filmmaking with Darby Forever, we’re happy to report that still holds true. Now G2G, but if you need us, we’ll be watching all her sketches—Girlfriends Talk Show is a personal favorite—until further notice.
