We always harp on about the craziness that is Fashion Month—yes, even 30 days’ worth of eye-popping fashion, half-a-dozen-plus flights, cocktail parties, backstage reportage, and hours of writing can get to us. But what makes it all so worth it (okay, so the truth is there are a lot of things that do) is catching up with friends we haven’t seen in a while. Like, say, when we sneaked up to Kim Jones’ Hotel Thoumieux suite—you probably remember the last time we hung out was in the desert for a pretty sartorially epic shoot with Louis Vuitton or when she sent us all her pics from her trip to Singapore—to rummage through her suitcase. Which, by the way, was overflowing (well, not exactly, it was actually quite organized, but you know what we mean) with sleek Ellery tops, Gucci loafers, and Louis Vuitton petite malles.
“I don’t think I pack that lightly. I try to plan looks ahead of time, but it never happens. I’ll still wake up on the day and have no idea what to wear,” Jones said as we had her sprawl out on the yellow couch in the center of the room. It kind of makes sense, girl’s got a lot of front rows to sit in and street pap lenses to star in front of, all on top of, you know, creating content for her website and her luxe partners. Which is also why we weren’t all that surprised to find all the other pieces taking up real estate in her monogrammed carry-on; like the CHANEL dual-tone mules, one for each day, or the Dolce & Gabbana Beatrice tote that is so pretty we almost stuffed it under our coats, and the cache of simple yet bold jewels she had set out to wear throughout the week. All in all, this little sampling of a closet was enough to make us plan our next trip out to Manila (her home base) for the real thing.
