I have a confession to make, friends: I was not an early adopter of the whole streetwear thing. I wasn’t the first in the office to start wearing sneakers to work, nor in life; I didn’t own my first item from a streetwear brand until a few months ago (BTW it was Noah NY, obviously, because my name is Noah); part of me still sorta (kinda) thinks I can’t really get away with wearing Supreme (even though that’s crazy). But there’s no denying streetwear is a thing, and here to stay. There’s been one major shift in the fashion industry, which permeated into practically every closet we at Coveteur visited—we’ve noticed that BAPE is as much of a collector’s item as, say, CHANEL. Now, well, you’d be hard-pressed to find me in so much as a half-inch heel on any odd weekday—I practically live in my Presto FlyKnits. Plus, streetwear is comfy as hell, so why not?
But unlike my super humble entry into the culture, those who hail from the streetwear world have been doing it for forever, and have accumulated the rarest, most epic collections of sneakers we’ve ever documented. Which is why we’ve dedicated an entire week, what we’re aptly calling Sneaker Week (oh, we’re so clever), to the collectors, the people behind the cult brands, and so much more.
