How to Be a Coveteur

Or, at least, have a closet like one. In collaboration with Amex.

How to Be a Coveteur

Guys, we’ve been going through peoples’ stuff for a long time (more than five years)—and not just any people either. If you’re at all familiar with this site, you’ll know we can pick ‘em (we’re so humble, we know), and the closets we sort through are pretty, uh, top notch. So we teamed up with American Express (also a company in the business of giving access) who invited us to be one the first people to ever shop Saks Fifth Avenue's newest store in our hometown (welcome to The Six, Saks) along with their Platinum Cardmembers. Only a shopping spree like this could compare to the fact that, even five years later, every door we knock on and drawer we dig through is never quite the same—and there’s always a surprise, whether it’s a somewhat outrageous collection of designer dresses, or sitting down to a piece of avocado toast served with a side of tequila post shoot (what can we say, when you’ve gone through someone’s most intimate belongings, well, everyone starts to get pretty comfortable).

That said, there are most definitely some commonalities closet-to-closet. And after our cofounder Stephanie Mark and Jake Rosenberg got the run of the store, Amex treated their VIP Cardmembers to a night at Saks, where we picked out some TC signatures. Suffice it to be said that while the champagne flowed, they found piece after piece that define a Coveteur. Herein, your all-access pass to getting a Coveteur-worthy closet straight from the floors of Toronto's newest Saks.

Sheet Masks: “Every Coveteur knows the importance of this Holy Grail mask. Whether it is in their bathrooms or part of their travel essentials, this mask is everyone’s absolutely favorite—it’s a must-have of literally every model we’ve ever photographed.”

Fancy Candles: “99% of the homes we have profiled have amazing candles. You can't be a Coveteur without an incredible smelling home.”

3

Acrylic Clutch: “We’ve seen these clutches over and over again. To make it pure Coveteur, get it monogrammed or personalized.”

4

Embellished Shoes: “It's an unofficial requirement to own a pair of sparkly shoes. The quirky take on footwear fits perfectly with our vibe. And usually people have them in multiples. (Seriously though, how could you stop at just one?)”

5

A Printed Dress: “A psychedelic designer party dress is often our Coveteurs’ most treasured piece. It's one of those pieces you can't be blamed for wearing again and again and again.”

White sneakers: “Whether you’re a guy or a girl, almost every Coveteur has at least one pair (probably more) of white sneakers. The habit has rubbed off—I’m a collector now, too.”

Sweatshirt: “Almost without fail, every person that we shoot has a strong sweatshirt game.”

3

Statement Bag: “You really reach Coveteur status when your start collecting statement designer bags. A bold logo is never a bad thing.”

4

Cashmere Blanket: “To live like a Coveteur you need a super luxurious blanket—cashmere and made in Italy.”

5

Black Sunglasses: “A black, super-sized pair of sunglasses is a must-have accessory for our photo shoots and every Coveteur has them.”
