When done right, hat hair can actually be a good thing.

If Snapchat, Instagram, Periscope and whatever other instantaneous app-of-the-moment hasn't tipped you off yet, Fashion Month is upon us, and with it comes a deluge of beauty looks to attempt to copy at home. And if we learned anything at BCBG's Moynihan Station show from our perch backstage with hair god Orlando Pita and TRESemmé, it's that hat hair is more than just okay—when seen through the brand's SoCal lens, it's actually pretty damn cool. As Lubov Azria told us, "our girl is a tomboy at heart, who unashamedly wears what she wants to wear," and for Pita, that means "rough, lived-in, modern beach waves". Bristle brush and ubiquitous hairspray in hand, he explained, “I wanted the effortless cool of our girl to be reflected with a distressed, wet-look wave that accentuates the hair's natural texture. I love mimicking that moment when her hair starts to dry after a day by the water". If we actually learned how to surf, that could totally be us, you guys! And besides, there's no better cure for hangover hair than your boyfriend's bucket hat. Copy the (actually easy, promise) steps below, plunk one on and you're out the door.

“I wanted the effortless cool of our girl to be reflected with a distressed, wet-look wave that accentuates the hair's natural texture. I love mimicking that moment when her hair starts to dry after a day by the water"

— Step 1 —

Start by washing your hair using Perfectly (un)Done Weightless Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry.

 — Step 2

Create a center part. Layer Make Waves Shaping Cream, then Make Waves Shine Creating Serum, onto a two-inch wide section of hair, twist and secure in a bun with a hair pin. Repeat until all hair is secured.

— Step 3

Use a hair dryer to dry each twisted bun, or leave to air dry. When dry, unravel each bun, twisting the hair as you remove the hair pin to maintain loose waves.

— Step 4

Use a soft bristle brush to smooth the waves around the face and the mid lengths.

— Step 5

Finish the look by sweeping all hair to the front and spraying Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray for flexible hold. And you're done!
