In the day and age of universal shopping carts, shoppable content (guilty) and drone delivery, the opening and straight-up existence of an independent, real-life, brick-and-mortar store that isn’t shilling anything you’d ever be able to find on Net-a-Porter is probably something worth celebrating. So here we go.

At this point, we’re guessing (hoping) you’ve heard of Kai Avent-deLeon. We mean, her notable press is essentially made up of all our daily must-read list: Vogue.com, The Cut, Into the Gloss, Wmagazine.com, Apartment Therapy—it goes on. And for good reason. If ever there’s been a risky business move, it’s hers: opening a concept store stocked with designer labels no one’s ever heard of, complete with coffee shop, in deepest Brooklyn. If it sounds like a breath of fresh air, well, that’s exactly how people have taken Sincerely, Tommy (that would be the store’s name, BTW), all the more because it’s not one of those wholly-intimidating concept stores, but as Avent-deLeon told us when we showed up at her Bed-Stuy brownstone, somewhat of a community center.

Of course, anyone with the kind of sartorial insight to provide selling space for labels like Georgia Alice and C.F. Goldman (a Céline alum), likely has a personal wardrobe to match. Cue, our entrance. Avent-deLeon cops to a deep love for Céline and Acne—and there were a lot of bags by the former :heart_eyes:. There were also Dries van Noten heels, sheer Rochas sweaters and a chartreuse slip dress by Rejina Pyo that had our ‘90s-loving hearts skipping a beat. We mentioned celebrating, right? Yeah, Avent-deLeon’s closet is the kind we like to pop the bubbly for.
