September's Most Coveted

It’s one of our most treasured September pastimes—staring sympathetically (read: smugly) at the kidlets trudging back to school, then promptly turning on our Kirkwoods and joining the throngs of back-to-school shoppers in an annual reinvention-via-wardrobe.

See, kids, you too can selectively pull the student card someday!

All hypocrisy aside, we’ve never quite grown out of the sartorial start-over that is September—we blame fall testing our (Visa) limits with an irresistible lineup of fringed knits, painterly prints and cozy capes.

And to you students giving us side-eye while rummaging through the racks—walk a mile in our Schoulers and we’ll talk.

Here are all the things we’ve been mood-boarding, double-tapping and whatever you do on Ello-ing this month.

Just saying those words make us want to cocoon ourselves in fabric and only emerge when Punxsutawney Phil says it’s time. Never mind the fact that it’s currently a surprise summer and we’re in the midst of a heat wave—we bought ourselves these wool-blend beauties and for the love of supposed sweater weather, we’re going to wear them! (Hands up if you’ve nodded in overdressed solidarity at the girl schvitzing in her cocoon coat. We feel you.)
We’ve found ourselves mixing MoMA-esque prints with the usual fall suspects—a Sharpie-scribbled Moschino mini with a chunky knit; paintbrush swirls stitched onto a tweed skirt; and knee-highs paired with a graphic wrap dress, collaged with surrealist imagery in shades of clay. Lest we go full Picasso on our wardrobes, we blame Fashion Month.
Knitwear? For fall? Groundbreaking, we know. But these next-level knits take pumpkin-spice-and-everything-nice sweater weather to street-style-worthy heights—transitioning summery bohemia into the cooler temps with shredded hems on merino wools and jacquard knits. Think less Coachella, more Coco Rocha.
Or as we call the label: wearable-disco-Clueless. Think your favorite silhouettes—A-line pleated minis, boxy crop-tops and midi-length pencil skirts—gone all galaxy far, far away with laser-cuts, Lurex, glittery gradients and sparkly stripes. Our pick? A deliciously nostalgic holographic tee redolent of pleather and primary-school pencil cases.

Don’t get us wrong, one of the best parts about Fashion Month is scoping new designers and wagering next-big-things. But we always find our eyes wandering back to the tried-and-true (read: Katrantzou, Kane and J.W. Anderson), and lo and behold, they’ve stepped up their game—especially in the it-bag department. Revamped wish list including but not limited to knot-handle clutches, buckled-up satchels and the circle pochette bag of our kitschy dreams.

‘Cause we’re all about that bag. (Had to.)
