48 Ways to Get Noticed By Street Style Photogs

Troll any street style photographer’s Tumblr and it’s hard not to daydream about C/O’d designer packages and outfit-eyedropper tools. But let’s be real here: the vast majority of us could play closet-roulette for hours on end and wind up with a grand total of three—slightly questionable—Candice Lake-worthy outfits. Two of which would require changing out of before dinner with the parentals (“they’re called culottes, Mom”).

Well, call us your fairy Ton-mothers—we’re here to help.

Here’s our guide to getting scoped by street style photogs (without having to stride by at quarter-speed to catch their eye).

Jackets can be the bane or brawn of the fall outfit. Perfectly executed, the bold coat can take an ensemble to Miroslava-levels. But go too bulky or too bland, and they can completely mask all the goodness underneath (call it the Canadian curse—we’re no stranger to it here at The Coveteur). These are the showstopper toppers (sorry, we can’t help it) sure to get serious curb appeal.

We’re all about embroidery for fall, whether it’s stitched on a satin clutch or a velvet satchel. Unexpected shapes like takeout cartons, rhombi and rectangles resembling hardcover books elevate these everyday beauties to street style proportions. When in doubt, our motto? Kan’t go wrong with Katrantzou.

Your beloved Alexander Wang Gabis may be everyday staples (that look like magic tricks!), but making your shoe game on par with Anna Dello Russo requires a little help from lug treads, wooden soles, serpentine textures and tactile touches like shearling and suede. Before you know it, Where Did U Get That’ll be asking “where did you get those?!”

This season, it’s bye-bye body con and hello third cupcake. And by that we mean dresses that play more on shape, pattern and volume than on showcasing the exact diameter of your waist. Elicit double takes in ComicCon-print shifts, saturated primary colors, super-sized structural details and 3D embellishments.

We can’t be the only ones thanking our lucky Starbucks that it’s socially (and street-stylistically) acceptable to sport elevated sweatshirts this season. Opt for chunky turtleneck sweaters, elegant origami-esque drapery, and unexpected weaves, like the sure-to-be-Face-Hunted Alexander Wang bubble-wrap knit we’re itching to sink our fingers into.

Okay, so now that you’re street-styled to the tens, we’re going to do the opposite of what Coco Chanel tells us and put one more thing on before leaving the house (one look at this season’s playful accessory assortment and we think Queen Coco’d forgive us). We’re all about the colorful collars embellished with enamel and fur, braided statement necklaces and rose-gold Eugenia Kim beetle headbands (aka the only kind of bugs you’d ever want in your hair).
