Getting Ready with Olivia Wilde MET Gala 2013

“The dress was custom designed for her by Francisco Costa, the Creative Director of Calvin Klein Women's Collection. It's a completely original design that draws on elements of his Fall 2013 collection, which Olivia attended with a front row view,” stylist duo Karla Welch and Kemal Harris told us. “We received the sketches and fabric swatches to review with Olivia and narrowed it down to this style and decided on color… Or not. Three fittings later… perfection!”

We’re firm believers that the best things come in twos. Meet the dream team of Welch and Harris; the East Coast/West Coast styling duo who dress the likes of the lovely Olivia Wilde, Hailee Steinfeld, Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler and more. We assigned The Wall Group’s own the very same task we gave to Leslie Fremar and Charlize Theron for the Oscars and Estee Stanley and Minka Kelly for the MET last night. Armed with their cameras, the girls documented every detail down to their trip to Calvin Klein’s Manhattan HQ to show how it all came together. With The Great Gatsby soundtrack playing throughout, the girls transformed Wilde into a classic, elegant beaut. After all, everyone could get the exact same snap from the red carpet but only The Coveteur could get the exclusive making-of-outtakes to show you how it all came together.

Like we said, we’re not exactly sure everyone got the whole “punk” memo last night, but we think the duo nailed it with their minimalistic take on it all.

“We are entering the works of clean and modern minimalism,” Welch said. “Ubiquitous Calvin Klein minimalism! The Calvin esthetic takes over in a really good way. Everything was reduced in such an elegant way.”

Oh, as for the rest of the answer to the famous, “What are you wearing? question? Welch and Kemal gave us all the details: Shoes and clutch? Calvin Klein, duh. (That felt very Cher Horowitz, no?) Jewelry? Fred Leighton. FYI: That “bracelet” was actually a vintage Leighton necklace wrapped around her wrist a few times! Stylist’s trick.

With fiancé Jason Sudeikis on her arm (yes, from Saturday Night Live and Horrible Bosses) and their invites tucked inside her CK clutch, Welch and Harris sent her off like proud parents.
